Community Living Supports

What is Community Living Supports (CLS)?

Community Living Supports (CLS) are personalized services designed to help children, teens, and adults with developmental or intellectual disabilities live as independently as possible. Our trained staff provide hands-on support tailored to each individual’s unique needs, including:

  • Daily living skills: Meal preparation, personal hygiene, household tasks

  • Social and community engagement: Building friendships, participating in local activities, using public transportation

  • Self-advocacy: Learning to make choices, communicate needs, and set personal goals

  • Routine and structure support: Establishing schedules and strategies for independence

  • Skill-building: Goal-oriented support to increase confidence and self-sufficiency

How CLS Can Be Funded Through Medicaid?

Many families access CLS through Michigan Medicaid programs, which can cover the cost of these services for eligible individuals.

To get started:

  1. Check eligibility: CLS is typically available for individuals who qualify for Medicaid Waiver programs, including Developmental Disabilities (DD) Waiver or MiABLE/HCBS services.

  2. Apply for Medicaid Waiver services: Families can apply online or through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). Your local MDHHS office can guide you through the process.

  3. Assessment: Once approved, a care coordinator will help determine which services and hours you qualify for.

  4. Coordinate with Ripple Effects Community Inclusion Center: After approval, our team will partner with you to schedule CLS sessions, create a personalized plan, and begin providing support.
