Respite care is a service that provides short-term relief for primary caregivers. It can be arranged for a few hours, several days, or even weeks. The care can be provided at home, in a healthcare facility, or at an adult day center. The cost is usually charged by the hour or by the number of days or weeks the service is provided. Most insurance plans do not cover these costs, but Medicare and Medicaid may offer assistance.
